The History of 731 West Main

The facade of this building dates back to 1903, when hardware store owner F.S. Moore erected a limestone store front complete with columns and his name permanently carved into header above the door.

When we took the space in the early Spring of 2018, the store looked nothing like this.

By happy accident, we discovered the original facade hidden behind a large awning and plywood. Our transformation was featured in a national trade publication.

The building has housed many different businesses over the years. We are thrilled to continue in the rich retail traditions of this wonderful old building. We exposed the original tin ceiling and refinished the wide plank pine floors to restore their original luster.

Local lore suggesting that there may be one or two ghosts residing in the building.

We are a stop on the Haunted Lake Geneva walking tour. The stories are fun to listen to, but we haven't seen or felt any spiritual presence yet. Although there was that one night when I was alone working late and had to go downstairs for something and suddenly got goosebumps...
